Reports To: Controller / Accounting Manager

Position Summary

Our Indianapolis-area client seeks a Senior Accountant with strong technical accounting skills and ownership of key close and reporting areas. The role involves preparing and reviewing complex journal entries and reconciliations, supporting or leading portions of the month-end close, performing variance analysis, and mentoring or reviewing the work of staff-level accountants. Ideal for someone ready for greater responsibility and technical depth.

Key Responsibilities

• Own complex general ledger areas (e.g., revenue, accruals, prepaids, fixed assets, intercompany, leases).

• Prepare and review journal entries and balance sheet reconciliations.

• Lead or significantly contribute to monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes.

• Perform flux/variance analysis and prepare supporting schedules and commentary for financial statements.

• Review work of staff accountants and provide guidance.

• Support internal and external audits with schedules and documentation.

• Research technical accounting issues under U.S. GAAP and document conclusions.

• Assist with process improvements, internal controls, and documentation.

• Collaborate with other departments and support financial reporting packages.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.

• 5+ years of progressive accounting experience (corporate or public accounting).

• Strong GAAP knowledge and experience with month-end close, reconciliations, and financial reporting.

• Advanced Excel skills.

• Experience preparing or reviewing financial statement schedules.

• Ability to work independently and meet tight close deadlines.

• Strong analytical and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• CPA (or active candidate).

• Experience with ERP systems (NetSuite, SAP, Sage Intacct, Microsoft Dynamics, Oracle, etc.).

• Public accounting or multi-entity/close experience.

• Experience reviewing or supervising junior staff.

• Knowledge of specific technical areas (revenue recognition, leases, fixed assets, etc.).
